PM Modi in Ahmedabad: Visits Air India Crash Site, Reviews Situation with Officials

National Desk: PM Modi Visits Air India Plane Crash Site in Ahmedabad, Meets Victims and Officials                                                                                                    Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday morning following the tragic Air India plane crash. He visited the Meghani Nagar area, where the London-bound Air India flight AI-171 crashed on Thursday, and met with victims’ families. He also visited the Civil Hospital to meet the only known survivor of the crash, who is currently undergoing treatment.

PM Modi was accompanied by Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi, and Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol. The officials briefed the Prime Minister on the sequence of events and the ongoing relief and investigation efforts.

The Prime Minister also visited the hostel building on which the plane crashed. The devastating incident claimed the lives of 266 people, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Among the deceased, 241 were on board the aircraft, while the rest were individuals present at the crash site in Meghani Nagar when the plane went down.

Air India’s Response

Air India has set up help centers at Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and Gatwick airports to support the families and relatives of those affected.

The ill-fated flight, operated on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad at 1:38 PM on Thursday. Onboard were 242 passengers and crew members, including citizens of India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada.

Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu personally updated the Prime Minister on the investigation and support being extended to families. The nation mourns the loss of lives in one of the deadliest air tragedies in recent times.
