Punjab Desk: Under the directions of Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, Civil Surgeon Barnala Dr. Baljeet Singh and SMO Mehal Kalan Dr. Gurtejinder Kaur, the Health Block Mehal Kalan is observing the National Eye Donation Fortnight at various health centers, schools, and public places. People are being made aware and motivated to perform the noble act of donating eyes after death.
On this occasion, while addressing people at CHC Mehal Kalan, Dr. Gurtejinder Kaur said that one person can illuminate the lives of two visually impaired individuals by donating their eyes after death.
She informed that within 4–6 hours after death, one can contact the nearest hospital, medical college, or eye bank. She added that even people who wear spectacles, use lenses, or have undergone eye surgery can still donate their eyes.
She further said that eyes of persons suffering from jaundice, blood cancer, AIDS, and meningitis cannot be donated.
