National Desk: Supreme Court Offices to Open on 2nd and 4th Saturdays from July 14 Under New Rules In a significant administrative reform, the Ministry of Law and Justice has announced changes to the Supreme Court’s working schedule through the Supreme Court (Amendment) Rules, 2025, published in the Gazette of India. Effective July 14, 2025, second and fourth Saturdays—previously non-working days—will now be regular working days for the Supreme Court registry and offices.
Revised Working Hours:
As per the amendment to Order II, Rules 1 to 3 of the Supreme Court Rules:
Monday to Friday: Offices will function from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding designated holidays and partial working days.
Post 4:30 PM on weekdays, only urgent filings will be accepted.
All Saturdays (including 2nd and 4th): Offices will remain open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
On Saturdays, urgent matters must be filed before 12:00 noon.
Holiday Hours:
For special public holidays like Christmas or New Year’s Day, office hours will be determined by the Chief Justice of India on a case-by-case basis.

Justice BR Gavai Sworn in as 52nd Chief Justice of India
Meanwhile, Justice Bhushan Ramkrishna Gavai took oath as the 52nd Chief Justice of India on May 14, 2025. Sworn in by President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, CJI Gavai has played a key role in landmark judgments, including the verdict upholding the abrogation of Article 370. Elevated to the Supreme Court in May 2019, Justice Gavai will serve until November 23, 2025, marking a tenure of just over six months.
