Punjab Desk: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the state government is wholeheartedly dedicated to the welfare of farmers and is fully committed to ensuring uninterrupted and adequate electricity supply during the paddy sowing season.
Making this announcement, Dera Baba Nanak MLA S. Gurdeep Singh Randhawa stated that the state government has taken necessary steps to support farmers during the current paddy season, ensuring they receive more than 8 hours of uninterrupted power supply daily for paddy cultivation.
He mentioned that, in view of the ongoing paddy sowing season, the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) have implemented a phased schedule. This schedule also includes Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR). He said that, as per government directives, permission for DSR was granted from May 15 to May 31, 2025, and sowing has been initiated in districts in a phased manner.
MLA S. Gurdeep Singh Randhawa stated that in border and canal-irrigated districts such as Faridkot, Bathinda, Ferozepur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Fazilka, sowing began on June 1. Subsequently, sowing started in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Rupnagar, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali), Fatehgarh Sahib, and Hoshiarpur from June 5. Similarly, in the remaining districts—Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Mansa, Moga, Patiala, Sangrur, Barnala, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar—sowing commenced from June 9.
MLA S. Randhawa informed that PSPCL has taken extensive measures to ensure uninterrupted power supply for agriculture during this crucial period. He said that under DSR, areas are being supplied with 8 hours of electricity daily since May 15, while regular paddy sowing is receiving assured supply as per the schedule. Additionally, uninterrupted power is being provided to residential and industrial sectors.
