Says, mass outreach drive will take Punjab government’s development work and public welfare initiatives to every household

Punjab Desk: Punjab Horticulture and Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Monday launched the door to door campaign in Jalandhar, under which a dedicated mass outreach programme will be undertaken to inform people about the development works and pro-people initiatives carried out by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab government during its tenure.
Distributing pamphlet to household in Basti Nau locality, Mr. Bhagat said that the campaign would take the government’s work directly to the people and enable them to know about the initiatives undertaken for the welfare and development of Punjab.
Mr. Bhagat highlighted the closure of 19 toll plazas in the state and said the move was saving commuters around Rs. 64 lakh every day. He also pointed to the Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) and said the initiative had helped save more than 2,700 lives.
On the agriculture and irrigation front, the Minister said around 14,000 km of underground pipelines had been laid to carry canal water to agricultural fields, while another 7,000 km was planned by the end of the year. He said the increased use of canal water had helped reduce dependence on groundwater.
Mr. Bhagat also highlighted the government’s initiatives in the power sector, including uninterrupted daytime electricity supply to farmers and the 300-unit free electricity scheme for domestic consumers. He said the purchase of the Goindwal Sahib thermal power plant had further strengthened Punjab’s power infrastructure.
On employment, Mr. Bhagat said more than 71,000 government jobs had been provided during the government’s tenure, with recruitment based on merit and without bribery or political recommendations. He also highlighted initiatives in education and sports, including Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan, and said the campaign would apprise people of the government’s work and achievements through direct public outreach. He stated that these initiatives have put Punjab a high growth trajectory by ensuring holistic development of the state.
Earlier, addressing councillors, workers and supporters during the launch event at his office, he called upon them to reach every household and apprise residents of the government’s achievements.
