Punjab Desk: The district administration is conducting an awareness campaign in various villages to prevent farmers from burning stubble and to make them aware about the environmental damage caused by it. Under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tidke, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sukhpreet Singh Sidhu today visited village Nathoheri and apprised the farmers about the modern methods of stubble management.
On this occasion, agricultural experts gave detailed information to the farmers about the management of paddy stubble using machines like baler, super seeder, happy seeder, mulcher etc. They said that burning stubble not only pollutes the air but also reduces the fertility of the soil. The essential microorganisms and elements present in the soil are destroyed, which directly affects the yield of the next crop.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that the biggest damage caused by stubble burning is to the health of the farmer and the land. He motivated the farmers to sow wheat without burning paddy stubble so that the quality of the soil is maintained. He said that the government has also implemented “Unnat Kisan App”, through which farmers can get information and facilities of stubble management machines with one click.
He further said that if any farmer faces any problem related to stubble management, he should contact the concerned cluster or nodal officer. He said that the officers and employees of the police department along with the civil officials are also regularly visiting the fields so that stubble does not catch fire at any place.
He said that in the awareness camps being organized in the villages, farmers are expressing their consent not to burn stubble. He assured that this campaign will continue for the welfare of both the farmers and the environment.
On this occasion, Agricultural Development Officer Maninderdeep Singh, Sandeep Singh, Sub Inspector Agriculture Harminder Singh and a large number of farmers were present.
