Zero Tolerance Approach Towards Stubble Burning

Punjab Desk: In a decisive move to curb stubble burning and promote sustainable agricultural practices, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Amit Bamby, together with Superintendent of Police (SP)(D) Davinder Attri, convened a comprehensive meeting with industrialists and baler owners at the District Administrative Complex.
ADC Amit Bamby highlighted several key measures to ensure effective stubble management. He stated that industrialists of Sangrur district will purchase paddy bales exclusively from the fields of Sangrur, ensuring that the benefits of the initiative remain within the district.
Baler owners were directed to give preference to small and marginal farmers while producing bails, ensuring equitable access and financial support to vulnerable farming communities. He further emphasized that bails of crop residue must be made within 8 to 10 days of the harvest.
The ADC stressed seamless collaboration between industrialists, baler owners, and farmers to streamline the collection, processing, and sale of stubble. The district administration will facilitate regarding necessary spaces for safe and organized bales placement, avoiding storage issues and enabling smooth operations.
ADC Amit Bamby said that farmers are being sensitized and educated about the environmental and health hazards of stubble burning and encouraged to adopt sustainable alternatives.
Continuous coordination with industrialists and baler owners will be maintained to encourage proper disposal and commercial use of crop residue, eliminating the practice of burning.
SP Davinder Attri elaborated on enforcement and monitoring measures. He stated that the police will adopt a strict zero-tolerance approach towards stubble burning, ensuring immediate and decisive action against offenders. Violators engaging in stubble burning will face stringent legal proceedings under the law.
During the stubble season, police teams will conduct intensified patrolling and surveillance to detect and prevent illegal burning. The police will also actively engage with farmers, educating them about the environmental hazards of stubble burning and the legal consequences of violations.
The meeting concluded with a unified commitment from all stakeholders to actively cooperate in implementing eco-friendly stubble management practices.
Both ADC Amit Bamby and SP Davinder Attri appealed to farmers, industrialists, and baler owners to join hands in protecting the environment and public health in Sangrur district.
Representatives from various industrial units, baler owners, and officials of different departments were present during the meeting.
