Third Phase of Flood Relief Distribution Begins in Fazilka District Panchayat Minister criticizes central government for indifferent attitude

Punjab Desk: Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond stated that the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is providing comprehensive relief to flood-affected areas, while the central government continues to show an indifferent attitude.
Speaking to the media, Sond said that Punjab has always stood at the forefront to protect the nation’s borders and food supplies. However, at a time when Punjab needed help, the central government has not extended support.
He highlighted the ongoing flood relief operations in Fazilka district, mentioning that the third phase of relief distribution has started. The district has 40 affected villages with a population of 24,930 impacted by the floods. So far, Punjab government teams have rescued 4,202 people, of which 2,553 have taken shelter in relief camps, bringing along 1,226 livestock. A total of 30 relief camps have been set up, of which 14 are currently operational.
The Cabinet Minister added that 6,185 families have been affected in the district. The relief work is supported by four NDRF teams, two army teams, and one BSF team. Until now, 8,599 ration kits have been distributed, and approximately 5,000 bags of cattle feed have been provided for dairy animals. Additionally, 3,715 tarpaulins have been distributed to protect homes and properties from rain damage.
Regarding healthcare facilities, 38 medical teams and 28 veterinary teams have been deployed across the district.
To ensure relief reaches every affected household, three tehsildars, two deputy tehsildars, three BDPOs, 58 patwaris, five kanungos, 10 food supply officers, and 25 other staff have been assigned to deliver relief in the impacted villages.
On the losses caused by floods, the minister stated that 123.96 km of roads have been damaged. He assured that repair work would be prioritized. Additionally, 17 government buildings and 18,486 acres of crops have been affected.
He also mentioned that small drains will be assessed to increase their capacity, and issues related to kaccha land in Fazilka will be presented to the Chief Minister for a swift and proper resolution.
