Dr J C Bakhshi, Regional Research Station, Abohar, organized training programme titled “Production and propagation of Arid Fruits” for the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes (SC/ST) candidates under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) Scheme. The training, held under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-All India Coordinated Research Project on Arid Zone Fruits (AICRP on Arid Zone Fruits) at PAU Regional Research Station, Abohar benefited 90 participants through theoretical tutorials and training.
Dr Anil Kumar Sangwan, Director of Research Station, inaugurate the training programme and awared to farmers regarding importance and scope of cultivation of Arid Fruits like date palm, Jamun, Ber and Aonla crop in the arid irrigated region of punjab.
Dr Anil Kumar Kamra , Scientist (Horticulture) and Scheme In-charge of AICRP on Arid Zone Fruits at RRS, Abohar delivered an introductory note and lecture on cultivation practices and propagation techniques for Date Palm, Jamun, Ber and Aonla crop and also aware about the quality production of Arid Fruits.
Dr Parkash Mahala, Vegetable Scientist, RRS, Abohar delivered a lecture on the scope of vegetables crops and techniques for production of nursery in arid irrigated region of Punjab. During the training programme Dr Anil Kamra demonstrated the technology like pollination in date palm and training and pruning practices, propagation of jamun crop and multiplication of offshoots in dates in the field and also aware about the processing technology for these fruit crops.
After completion of training programme, the spray pumps and planting materials (dates and jamun seedling) were distributed to farmers.
