Punjab Desk:   To ensure the safe commute of students to and from schools, Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Sangrur, Naman Markan, convened a meeting with principals and representatives of various schools to review the implementation of the Safe School Vahan Policy.

Presiding over the meeting, Shri Naman Markan directed all school heads to ensure the strict implementation of the Safe School Vahan Policy. He emphasized that any negligence in enforcing this policy would lead to action against the concerned school management as per the rules.

Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Shri Rahul Chaba, IAS, the RTO instructed school heads to make sure that no student below 18 years of age brings a private vehicle to school. He further directed that schools and private transporters providing student transport facilities must comply with all safety norms under the Safe School Vahan Policy. He said that the transport committees constituted at the school level should keep a record of how each student commutes to school.

The RTO also instructed school principals to strictly follow the policy guidelines, which include the presence of a female attendant on school buses, installation of CCTV cameras, and prevention of overloading in buses.

Naman Markan also urged school heads to create awareness among students about obtaining valid driving licences. He informed that 30 services of the Transport Department are available through Seva Kendras. These include services related to driving licences such as — application for learner’s licence, change of address or name in learner’s licence, issue of duplicate learner’s licence, issue or renewal of driving licence (without test requirement), replacement of driving licence, change of address, name, or date of birth in driving licence, obtaining licence details, surrender of vehicle class, issue of public service vehicle badge for drivers, renewal of conductor licence, and extension of learner’s licence validity — all of which can now be availed through Seva Kendras.
