Larvae Found at Under-Construction Buildings and Nurseries

Mansa, 20 JUNE 2025 FACT RECORDER

Punjab Desk: As part of the “Dengue Te Vaar Every Friday” campaign, the Health Department carried out inspections at under-construction buildings and nurseries in Mansa to check for dengue larvae. Anti-larvae teams inspected water-filled containers at these locations and destroyed any larvae found.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Ranjeet Rai informed that on this occasion, residents were made aware of the importance of weekly cleaning of water containers and were encouraged to keep containers under shade and properly covered to prevent rainwater accumulation. He emphasized that the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads dengue, mainly breeds in containers with even small amounts of stagnant water. To prevent dengue and chikungunya cases, it is essential not to allow water to collect in such containers. He added that this activity should be conducted at least once a week.

District Epidemiologist Santosh Bharti shared that anti-larvae teams are conducting door-to-door visits to raise awareness about dengue prevention. During these visits, the teams inspected households for mosquito larvae and destroyed them on the spot by draining water from various containers. Awareness was also spread about emptying and cleaning water containers such as coolers, tires, clay pots, trays behind refrigerators, animal/bird water dishes, buckets, and bottles.

She further advised people to wear full-sleeved clothing while going outside in the morning and evening, keep mesh doors closed, and use mosquito nets while sleeping outside. Maintaining cleanliness can significantly help in preventing the spread of dengue.

She added that similar awareness activities are being carried out every Friday in both urban and rural areas of the district. People were informed about dengue prevention measures and encouraged to carry out this anti-larvae activity weekly. She stressed that unless people become aware and take responsibility for cleaning stagnant water sources, dengue cannot be effectively controlled.

Present on this occasion were District Mass Education and Information Officer Vijay Kumar, Deputy Mass Education and Information Officer Darshan Singh, Jasvir Singh (Secretary, Youth Welfare Association), Sanjeev Kumar (Health Supervisor), Jaswinder Singh (Supervisor, Municipal Committee Mansa), health workers Gurinderjit Singh and Baljit Singh, Balveer Kaur and Sukhjeet (ANMs and ASHA workers), nursing students, as well as supervisors from construction sites.
