Farmers should follow instructions to avoid legal action and keep the environment clean – Deputy Commissioner
Moga, April 4,
After harvesting wheat, many farmers set fire to the crop residue (stalks). Burning wheat stalks causes smoke pollution in the air, which causes breathing problems for people suffering from respiratory diseases. Along with this, it has a detrimental effect on the fertility of the land and smoke also causes many accidents, which also leads to the loss of many precious lives. By setting fire to the stalks, there is a fear of catching fire to the crops standing in the adjacent fields or the surrounding trees, which can also lead to major accidents. The Punjab government has also issued a notification under the Air and Control of Pollution Act 1981, according to which there is a complete ban on setting fire to crop residue.
In view of the above, District Magistrate Moga Mr. Sagar Setia said that in exercise of the powers granted under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Act, a complete ban is imposed on burning of wheat stubble (stubble) within the limits of Moga district. These orders will remain in force till May 31, 2025.
Deputy Commissioner Mr. Sagar Setia appealed to the farmers to strictly follow these orders to avoid any legal action.
