Punjab Desk: According to orders issued by District Magistrate Barnala, Shri T. Banith, under Section 163 of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, it is prohibited to harvest crops with combines in the Barnala district from 6 PM to 10 AM.

In addition, owners of combine harvesters have been directed to get their machines inspected through the Agriculture Department before use, and no combine shall be operated without a Super SMS system installed.

In another order, District Magistrate Shri T. Banith stated that it has been observed that after harvesting, farmers often set fire to crop stubble, which can cause damage and spreads significant pollution in the air. This practice also poses a risk of fire spreading to nearby standing crops or villages. Therefore, setting fire to crop stubble is also strictly prohibited.

These orders will remain in effect until 13 November.
