Health Department Launches Stop Diarrhea Campaign Calendar: Rotavirus

Health Desk: Under the leadership of Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurpreet Singh Rai and District Immunization Officer Dr. Varinder Pal Kaur, the Health Department of Tarn Taran released a calendar on Thursday related to the ongoing Stop Diarrhea Campaign, supported by the World Health Organization.

Speaking at the event held at the office of the Civil Surgeon, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Rai said the campaign, which began on July 1, will continue until July 31. He stated that the calendar contains detailed information on the symptoms, prevention, and treatment of diarrheal diseases as part of the Intensified Diarrhea Control Fortnight (IDCF) program.

He added that the Mass Media Wing is actively running awareness campaigns across various blocks of the district to make the public more informed about diarrhea prevention. Emphasizing the importance of the campaign, Dr. Rai said the program is crucial for ensuring the mental and physical well-being of children.

During the campaign, IDCF Corners have been established in all health institutions across the district, where healthcare workers are providing ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and zinc tablets to children.

District Immunization Officer Dr. Varinder Pal Kaur explained that during this campaign, healthcare workers are identifying children aged 0 to 5 years who are affected by diarrhea so that they can receive timely treatment and lives can be saved. She also mentioned that ORS corners have been set up at Anganwadi centers to make treatment easily accessible.

Dr. Kaur provided specific information about the symptoms seen in children affected by diarrhea, such as fever, weakness, poor digestion, lethargy, abdominal pain, sudden weight loss, dehydration, loss of appetite, and irritability.

Present at the event were District Epidemiologist Dr. Raghav Gupta, SMO Kairon Dr. J.P. Singh, Dr. Randeep Singh, District Mass Media Officer Sukhwant Singh Sidhu, Senior Assistant Navtej Singh, AMO Kanwal Balraj Singh, Accounts Officer Malvinder Singh, and Computer Assistant Sandeep Singh.
