Health Department promotes the message of ‘Longevity’ with Chart and Painting Activities to Encourage Proper Blood Pressure Control
Under the guidance of Civil Surgeon Fazilka Dr. Raj Kumar and leadership of SMO Dr. Sumit, a chart competition dedicated to World Hypertension Day was organized at Senior Secondary School (Sito Guno). An awareness camp was also held on this occasion.
Block Educator Sunil Tandon informed that through this chart competition, efforts are being made to raise awareness about non-communicable diseases. He explained that high blood pressure is a major cause of several health issues such as stroke, heart attack, and kidney diseases, and it can also contribute to dementia. Often, people are unaware that they have hypertension, and they usually come to know about it only after experiencing a heart attack or stroke. The department is observing World Hypertension Day as a month-long awareness campaign.
On this occasion, BEE Tandon stated that hypertension is a growing concern in India. For the general population, blood pressure should be below 140/90, while for individuals with hypertension without other complications, and for those with diabetes or chronic kidney disease, the target should be below 130/80. Although there is no permanent cure, medications and lifestyle changes can significantly improve quality of life. These include a balanced diet, reduced salt intake, avoiding alcohol, regular physical activity, stress management, maintaining a healthy body weight, quitting smoking, taking prescribed medications properly, and following medical advice.
Present at the event were CHO Veerpal, school principal Vinod Dudi, teacher Anamika, health team members, and students.
