Health Desk: Under the directions of Dr. Swapandeep Kaur, Civil Surgeon, Rupnagar, and the leadership of Dr. Jungjeet Singh, Senior Medical Officer, Kiratpur Sahib, various Ayushman Arogya Centres observed World Environment Day today.

Addressing the respected residents in village Dasgraiin, Health Inspector Balwant Rai emphasized the crucial role trees play in purifying air, soil, and water. He mentioned that due to increasing pollution in today’s machine-driven era, the quality of air has significantly deteriorated. As transportation continues to expand and deforestation increases, the oxygen level in the atmosphere is dropping while toxic gases like carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are rising—posing serious threats to health and the environment.

He highlighted that while the government launches annual plantation drives to promote greenery, many social service organizations and environmentalists are also actively supporting this green movement. He stressed that being a true citizen means committing ourselves to the cleanliness and purity of the nation and adopting patriotic values in everyday actions.

He appealed to everyone to plant at least one sapling on personal occasions like birthdays and take full responsibility for its care until it matures. If we neglect these responsibilities, he questioned, what kind of world will we leave for the next generations?

Additionally, he urged people to stop using plastic bags, bottles, cups, and other plastic items, as plastic waste is severely polluting our environment.

Community Health Officer Gagandeep Kaur, along with the Health & Wellness team of Dasgraiin, educated villagers about the significance of World Environment Day. Also present on the occasion were Amit Kumar Sharma (Health Worker), Kulwant Kaur and Prakash Devi (ANMs), and Neelam Rani (ASHA Worker).
