US Border Arrest: Indian National Gurdev Singh Taken into Custody on Child Sexual Abuse Charges
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) arrested 42-year-old Gurdev Singh on Wednesday at the Champlain Port of Entry in New York. Authorities handed him over to the New York State Police. Singh was wanted on a warrant issued by the state of Indiana for child sexual abuse charges. He is currently held at the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office awaiting extradition.
CBP officers apprehended Singh when he was denied entry into Canada. During investigation, it was revealed that he was wanted in Indiana for child enticement and sexual abuse charges. Further verification confirmed his identity and the outstanding warrant against him.
During the search, officers found several sharp weapons including a sword and an axe in Singh’s possession. It was also discovered that Singh is an undocumented immigrant who has overstayed his visitor visa since 2016.
Steve Bronson, Director of the Champlain Port, praised CBP officers for their unique skills and effective use of national law enforcement resources that helped capture the fugitive. Bronson emphasized that individuals living illegally in the U.S., especially those preying on children, will be held accountable.
