Fatehgarh Sahib, February 15

Addressing the growing trend of drug use among children, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Sona Thind emphasized that it is crucial to curb this trend, as failing to do so could lead to serious consequences in the future. Dr. Thind shared these views during a meeting held under the Joint Action Plan for the Prevention of Drug Abuse and Illegal Smuggling. She directed concerned officials to take strict action against those selling alcohol or intoxicating substances to children, and stressed that no negligence would be tolerated in this matter.

Dr. Thind instructed the Excise Department and District Drug Control Cell officials to ensure that CCTV cameras are installed at shops selling alcohol or drugs like X, H, and H-1, to ensure that no intoxicants are sold to children. She also directed health department officials to take strict action under the COTPA Act (2003) against shopkeepers selling cigarettes or tobacco to children.

Dr. Sona Thind further instructed education department officials to ensure that no cigarette or tobacco shops are located within a 100-meter radius of schools. She also directed police department officials to take action against those selling intoxicants to children under Sections 77 and 78 of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, aiming to make Fatehgarh Sahib a drug-free district.
