Punjab Desk: Under the directions of Ms. Navjot Kaur, Hon’ble Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, and the leadership of Sh. Bishan Swaroop, Hon’ble In-charge District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Moga, a seminar was organized at the Sakhi Center, Moga as part of the “Sakhi One Stop Center” scheme. The program was conducted by Ms. Kiran Jyoti, CJM-cum-Secretary, DLSA Moga. On this occasion, Ms. Mandeep Kaur, Panel Advocate, was also present.
Ms. Kiran Jyoti informed that the aim of this scheme/campaign is to create awareness among women about the Sakhi Center. She explained that the center offers a range of services at a single place including free legal aid and advice, safe temporary shelter (up to five days), police assistance, psychological counseling, medical aid, and emergency support and protection services — all provided to women victims in distress.
She added that if a woman becomes a victim of domestic violence and is forced to leave her home, she can temporarily reside at the Sakhi Center. She also emphasized the importance of spreading awareness about the center at the grassroots level and informed people about the toll-free helpline number 15100.
