Punjab Desk: Punjab Panchayat Minister Mr. Tarunpreet Singh Sond today reviewed the ongoing flood relief operations in Fazilka district and announced the launch of the second round of ration distribution for affected families. He said that in the first phase, 3,835 families were provided ration kits along with cattle feed, and now fresh supplies are being dispatched in the second phase.
The Minister informed that 20 villages with a population of 13,289 and 8,383 livestock have been affected. To strengthen rescue work, an additional NDRF team has been deployed, increasing the number of boats to 23. Currently, eight relief camps are operational, housing 662 people and 384 animals, where the government is ensuring full care and support.
Mr. Sond said that so far, over 2,000 people have been rescued, 2,300 bags of cattle feed distributed, and 1,500 patients treated with free medicines. The Health Department has deployed round-the-clock medical teams at key locations and in camps, while the Animal Husbandry Department has 14 active teams. He added that four women from flood-hit areas have delivered babies safely, and all injured persons during the floods have been treated and discharged. Water samples from villages are being regularly tested to ensure safe drinking water.
The Minister also mentioned that some villages in Jalalabad constituency have been affected by floodwater, but the situation there remains better compared to Fazilka. Relief material including ration kits and tarpaulins has also been distributed in those areas.
On this occasion, Fazilka MLA Mr. Narinder Pal Singh Sawna said that the district administration is ensuring timely delivery of relief material to every needy family. Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Amarpreeet Kaur Sandhu and SSP Mr. Gurmeet Singh briefed the Cabinet Minister about ongoing relief measures. Senior officers including ADC (General) Dr. Mandeep Kaur, ADC (Development) Subhash Chander, SDM Virpal Kaur, Assistant Commissioner (General) Amandeep Singh Mavi, District President Upkar Singh Jakhar, and Market Committee Chairman Paramjit Singh Noor Shah were also present.
