All India Sainik School Entrance Examination ( AISSEE) 2026 will be conducted by NTA

Punjab Desk: The All India Sainik School Entrance Examination (AISSEE) for admission to Sainik schools across the country will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the academic session 2026-27. The examination will be in OMR (offline) mode and the date of the examination will be released later on the official website of NTA https://exams.nta.ac.in/AISSEE . This information was shared by Commissioner Abhijit Kaplish.
He said that in the exam pattern, the subject-wise distribution of marks for class 6 is Mathematics – 50 questions ( 150 marks) , General Knowledge – 25 questions ( 50 marks) , Language – 25 questions (50 marks), Intelligence – 25 questions ( 50 marks) , Total: 125 questions – 300 marks and for class 9, the subject-wise distribution of marks is: Mathematics – 50 questions ( 200 marks) , English – 25 questions ( 50 marks ), Intelligence – 25 questions ( 50 marks) , General Science – 25 questions ( 50 marks) , Social Science – 25 questions ( 50 marks) and total 150 questions – 400 marks.
Sainik School Kapurthala under the Ministry of Defence is a premier educational institution for students of Punjab in Seats and Reservations. For the academic session 2026–27, approximately 90 seats ( 80 boys + 10 girls) are likely to be available for Class VI and 18 seats ( 15 boys + 3 girls) for Class IX.
Out of this, 67% seats are reserved for students from Punjab state and 33% seats are open for students from other states. Out of the total seats, 15% are reserved for SC , 7.5% for ST , and 27% for OBC categories. In addition, out of the remaining seats, 25% seats are reserved for children of defence personnel (serving or retired).
Eligibility criteria for Class VI: Boys and girls born between 01 April 2014 and 31 March 2016. For Class IX: Boys born between 01 April 2011 and 31 March 2013, who have passed Class VIII from a recognized school . Admission will be purely merit-based , in which the medical fitness of the candidate is also mandatory.
Examination Centres (Punjab/Chandigarh) The proposed examination centres in the state of Punjab and Chandigarh are: Amritsar , Ludhiana , Faridkot , Patiala and Kapurthala.
Income-based scholarship scheme by Punjab Government
The Punjab Government has announced an income-based scholarship scheme for Punjabi students taking admission in Sainik School Kapurthala. The scheme provides fee reimbursement based on household income:
Household income up to ₹3,00,000, 100% of the fee is refundable , Household income up to ₹3,00,001 – ₹5,00,000, 75% of the fee is refundable , Household income up to ₹5,00,001 – ₹7,50,000, 50% of the fee is refundable , Household income up to ₹7,50,001 – ₹10,00,000, 25% of the fee is refundable and there is no exemption for income above ₹10,00,000.
