PAU-KVK, Hoshiarpur organizes village level awareness camp on paddy residue management at Nathupur

Punjab Desk: PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra organizes stubble management awareness camp at Nathupur
PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Tanda, organized a village-level awareness camp for stubble management at Apnay village Nathupur, Block Tanda.
At the beginning of the camp, Associate Professor (Animal Science) PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dr. Parminder Singh welcomed the farmers and emphasized that farmers should not burn paddy stubble and should manage it properly through available machinery and techniques to prevent environmental pollution. He said that machinery banks have been formed in the blocks for stubble management and farmers should use the stubble management related machinery jointly so that full benefit can be taken from it.
Addressing the farmers on this occasion, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dr. Ajaib Singh spoke about the damage caused by burning paddy stubble and gave detailed information about the importance of various elements present in the stubble. He shared technical points regarding the use of available machinery for paddy stubble management and explained in detail about the use of paddy stubble as animal feed, energy, mulch, fertilizer and for mushroom production and cow dung gas plant.
Agriculture Development Officer Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Tanda Lovejit Singh shared detailed information about the departmental activities. He also shed light on the efforts being made by the district administration and the department for stubble management in block Tanda and informed that in the past years, stubble management has been successfully done in Tanda block by making bales and he motivated the farmers to manage stubble by making complete planning in this regard.
For the convenience of the farmers present, seeds of berseem, cabbage, mustard, winter vegetable kits, fodder kits, pulses and oilseed kits, scrap metal for animals and agricultural literature were also made available.
On this occasion, progressive farmers from villages Nathupur, Ibrahimpur and Feroz Rolian, namely, Numberdar Jasbir Singh, Numberdar Sarjit Singh, Phuman Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Poorn Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Dilbagh Singh, Jagir Singh, Sohan Singh were present.
Finally, Ambrish, Secretary of the Cooperative Society of village Nathupur, thanked the visiting experts and the farmers.

He highlighted the efforts being made by the district administration and the department for stubble management in block Tanda and said that in Tanda block during the last years, straw bales are being managed successfully and farmers are being motivated for stubble management by making a complete plan in this regard.

Berseem, cabbage, mustard seeds, winter vegetable kits, fodder kits, pulses and oilseed kits, mineral powder for animals, and agricultural materials were also made available for the convenience of the farmers present.

On this occasion, progressive farmers from villages Nathupur, Ibrahimpur, and Feroze Rollian were present.

In the end, Ambarish, Secretary of Village Nathupur ki Sahakari Sabha, thanked the visiting experts and the present farmers.

PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hoshiarpur organized a village level awareness camp at paddy residue management adopted village Nathupur in block Tanda on 14-10-2025 in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Tanda.

The farmers were extended a warm welcome by Dr. Parminder Singh, Associate Professor (Animal Science), PAU-KVK Hoshiarpur and he urged the farmers to shun residue burning for safeguarding the environment. He highlighted that custom hiring centers on paddy residue machinery have been formed in the block and laid stress on need of custom hiring and cooperative basis for proper utilization of paddy residue machinery.

Dr. Ajaib Singh, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering), KVK Hoshiarpur highlighted the harmful effects of burning of crop residue burning and exhorted the farmers to successfully pursue the noble cause of non-burning of paddy residue in campaign mode. He discussed about various technologies for the effective management of paddy residue and also shared information regarding their working. He also addressed the farmers regarding use of paddy straw for fodder purposes, in mushroom cultivation, paddy straw based biogas plant, for bio char, and as mulch.

Sh. Lovejit Singh, Agriculture Development Officer, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Tanda gave a brief overview of the different schemes of the department for the welfare of the farmers. He also highlighted the various steps being taken by the district administration and the department for paddy residue management in the block, especially the successful use of balers during recent years.

For the benefit of the farmers, seed of gobhi sarson , berseem, winter vegetable seed kits, fodder kits, pulse & oilseed kits and mineral mixture was facilitated and PAU literature was also provided.

Progressive farmers, Nambardar S. Jasbir Singh, Nambardar, S. Surjit Singh, S. Phumman Singh, S. Lakhwinder Singh, S. Puran Singh, S. Sulkhwinder Singh, S. Jagir Singh, S. Dilbagh Singh, S. Sohan Singh from villages Nathupur, Ibrahimpur and Ferozeraulian participated in the program.
