Faridkot, 26 JUNE 2025 FACT RECORDER

Punjab Desk: District Magistrate of Faridkot, Madam Poonamdeep Kaur, IAS, exercising powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, has issued several restriction orders across the Faridkot district. These restrictions will remain in effect until August 16, 2025.

Ban on Aerial Firing at Marriage Palaces and Gatherings
The Deputy Commissioner stated that aerial firing by the general public during weddings, social and religious functions, rallies, and events held in marriage palaces is becoming increasingly common in the district, posing threats to life and property. Therefore, a strict ban has been imposed on aerial firing during such events within the district limits until August 16, 2025.

Ban on Sale and Use of Chinese Manjha (Thread)
The District Magistrate has prohibited the sale, storage, and use of Chinese Manjha used for kite flying within Faridkot district. This synthetic thread, made of plastic rather than cotton, poses serious risks such as hand injuries to kite flyers, throat injuries to cyclists and two-wheeler riders, and is also hazardous to birds and animals. Hence, a complete ban on Chinese Manjha has been imposed until August 16, 2025.

Ban on Hookah Bars
Another order issued bans the operation of hookah bars in the Faridkot district. Hookah smoking in shops, hotels, restaurants, and other public places has been completely prohibited. This restriction is also effective until August 16, 2025.

Ban on Military-Style Uniforms and Vehicles
The District Magistrate has imposed a ban on the purchase, sale, and use of military-style uniforms and vehicles by civilians within the district. Additionally, putting up hoardings (except government-sanctioned ones) on public roads and intersections within municipal limits is also prohibited. These orders will remain in effect until August 16, 2025.

Ban on Unregistered Ambulances
A strict ban has been imposed on the operation of unregistered ambulances in the district. The DM stated that many ambulances are running without proper permits and lack basic facilities. Such ambulances often exploit patients financially and pose serious risks to their health. To protect public safety and prevent potential law and order issues, only registered ambulances will be allowed to operate in the district until August 16, 2025.

Ban on Pigeon Racing Competitions
The District Magistrate has also banned pigeon racing competitions within the district. The Animal Welfare Board of India has reported complaints about such illegal events in Punjab. These competitions violate Sections 3 and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The Hon’ble Supreme Court has also clarified that such activities fall under criminal offenses. Legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in such events. This ban will also remain in force until August 16, 2025.
