Hoshiarpur, 10 September 2025 Fact Recorder
Punjab Desk: District Magistrate Hoshiarpur, Aashika Jain, exercising the powers vested under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, has issued orders imposing various restrictions within the district.
As per the orders, without the permission of the respective SDMs, no procession can be taken out, and no gathering of five or more persons, sloganeering, carrying sticks, unlicensed weapons, or sharp-edged knives is allowed in the district. These restrictions will not apply to government functions, conferences, or meetings. Political parties will have to seek prior written permission from the concerned SDM before holding any rally or public meeting.
Additionally, transportation of cattle has been completely banned—during summers from 6 PM to 6 AM and during winters from 5 PM to 7 AM. Those who keep cattle are directed to get them registered with the Animal Husbandry Department.
The orders also prohibit the use of military olive green–colored jeeps, motorcycles, and vehicles within the district. This restriction, however, does not apply to military officers. Similarly, unauthorized adults are barred from wearing uniforms of the Armed Forces, Punjab Police, or BSF, and selling or buying such uniforms to/from unauthorized persons is also prohibited. These directions will not apply to the Armed Forces, Punjab Police, BSF, or military officials.
Further, under the DM’s orders, no individual, Panchayat, Municipal Council, or Nagar Panchayat in the rural or urban areas of Hoshiarpur district can dig ponds without prior written approval of the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
Another order bans illegal boring (installation of borewells) on village streets and pathways across the district.
All these restrictions will remain in force till November 7, 2025.
