1 June 2025

A meeting of the committee to finalise the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh’s (MCC) Smart Parking Solution Project was held today under the chairmanship of Saurabh Joshi. Councillor Umesh Ghai and relevant MCC officials were present at the meeting, which focused on comprehensive discussions surrounding the scope of the project, hardware and software requirements, and technical eligibility criteria for bidders.

The committee approved several key features of the smart parking system, including dedicated pink parking zones for women, internet connectivity for real-time monitoring, pre-booking of paid parking slots, and the introduction of pre-paid parking cards valid across the city. Additional elements like a panic button in pink parking areas, a mobile app and web portal for slot booking, specifications for portal cabins, stamp duty provisions, and exit clauses for operators were also finalised. Provisions for SLA penalties and IT tool audits were reviewed to ensure project compliance and performance.

In a related development, a delegation from the Chandigarh Traders Association of Sector 17, led by Kamaljit Singh Panchi, proposed the development of a dedicated mobile app that would allow users to check real-time availability of parking spaces. The suggestion was noted for consideration in the final implementation plan.
