Model Code of Conduct for these elections to be implemented with immediate effect

Punjab Desk: As per the notification dated 25.09.2025 issued by the Rural Development and Panchayats Department under Section 209 of the Punjab Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, the State Election Commission has announced the general elections for the members of the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti in the state yesterday evening.

Giving information in this regard, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran, Mr. Rahul, IAS said that as per the program issued by the State Election Commission, elections to 20 zones of Zila Parishad and 165 zones of 9 Block Samiti will be held in District Tarn Taran on December 14. These elections will be held through ballot paper and 50 percent seats in the elections to Zila Parishad and Block Samiti will be reserved for women.

District Election Officer Mr. Rahul said that as per the election schedule, the date for filing nomination papers by the candidates for these elections will start from 01.12.2025 (Monday) (from 11:00 am to 03:00 pm) in the offices of the concerned Returning Officers nominated for this work. The last date for filing nominations will be 04.12.2025 (Thursday). The scrutiny of nomination papers will be on 05.12.2025 (Friday). The last date for withdrawal of nominations will be 06.12.2025 (Saturday) till 03:00 pm. He informed that all nomination papers should be accompanied by the prescribed affidavit and in case the candidate is fielded by a political party, the official letter of the concerned political party should be attached.

The District Election Officer informed that the election will be held on 14.12.2025 (Sunday) from 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM using ballot papers. The counting of votes cast will be done on 17.12.2025 (Wednesday) at the counting centers set up for this purpose.

He said that Zila Parishad Tarn Taran has 20 zones, while Panchayat Samiti Gandiwind has 15 zones, Panchayat Samiti Naushehra Pannuan has 20 zones, Panchayat Samiti Chohla Sahib has 16 zones, Panchayat Samiti Nagoke has 15 zones, Panchayat Samiti Patti has 16 zones, Panchayat Samiti Khadoor Sahib has 25 zones, Panchayat Samiti Valtoha has 18 zones, Panchayat Samiti Tarn Taran has 17 zones and Panchayat Samiti Bhikhiwind has 23 zones.

The District Election Officer said that the State Election Commission has notified an election expenditure limit of Rs. 2,55,000/- for Zila Parishad candidates and Rs. 1,10,000/- for Panchayat Samiti candidates.

The District Election Officer said that with the announcement of this election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct for the guidance of the candidates and the state has come into force with immediate effect in the revenue area of ​​all the Gram Panchayats, which come under the respective Zila Parishads and Panchayat Samiti. It will remain in force till the end of the election process. He said that a copy of the Model Code of Conduct is available on the website of the State Election Commission. He said that the district administration will conduct these elections in a completely fair, free and peaceful manner under the instructions and rules of the State Election Commission.
