Dharamsala: The Kangra police station has been adjudged the best in Himachal Pradesh in the annual ranking for the year 2024 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), Government of India. The station has been controlled by Inspector Sanjiv Sharma since 2023, who said the honour was a proof of the excellent functioning, dedication and commitment shown by the entire staff towards the public while discharging their duty. Recently, the state DGP, during a surprise inspection, had put forth his words of appreciation for the Kangra police station. The award is given by the Government of India keeping in view various parameters such as crime control, quick problem solving, resolution of public grievances, administrative efficiency and public cooperation.
Hit by speeding vehicle, Man dies
Shimla: A tragic incident occurred near Sambri Dhank in Nirmand block near Rampur Bushahr, where a pedestrian lost his life after being hit by a speeding vehicle. The victim, Ramesh Negi, a resident of Ghadoli village under Nankhari tehsil, was critically injured in the accident and succumbed to his injuries despite being rushed to Khaneri hospital. The driver, identified as Mahendra Singh from Sheel village in Dim panchayat, has been taken into custody by the police. A case has been registered under sections 281, 106 and 125 of the BLS Act for negligent driving. According to eyewitness Surjeet Thakur from Bahli Bhutti village, the accident occurred around 1:30 pm when he and the deceased were walking from Thachwa to Chati to watch a cricket match. The speeding vehicle struck Ramesh from behind and dragged him for about 12 feet, causing severe injuries. DSP Ani Chandra Shekhar confirmed the case and stated that the driver has been apprehended, and an investigation is underway. The victim’s body has been handed over to his family after a post-mortem examination.
