Punjab Desk: S. Harjot Singh Bains, Cabinet Minister of Education and Information & Public Relations Department, Punjab, said that social service organizations, clubs, youth, panchs, and sarpanchs have played a major role in bringing life back on track by helping the needy. He added that colleagues contributing to Operation Rahat, launched to provide relief to families affected by the devastating floods in villages, have worked tirelessly to heal the wounds of the victims.
S. Harjot Bains today attended the Janata Darbar under his weekly program Sada MLA Sade Vich at 2RVR, Nangal, where he came to listen to people’s problems and provide solutions. Bains said that every Sunday, by organizing this camp in Nangal, listening to the concerns of people closely, and ensuring proper redressal, he is fulfilling his duty and responsibility. Hundreds of people reach this camp, and necessary directions are immediately given to the concerned departments and officials. He emphasized that people from all walks of life — panchayats, social service organizations, youth clubs, youngsters, students, and elders — come here without recommendations, and the platform is open for everyone to resolve their issues.
Harjot Singh Bains stated that during the floods, more than 100 villages in his constituency were affected. He personally visited each area with his team. Even in places where road connectivity was cut off, he reached out using boats and tractors. Water entering from Himachal Pradesh caused heavy damage. Special girdawari (crop loss survey) is underway. Compensation processes have also started for losses to houses, livestock, and other damages. Further Harjot Bains said that for immediate relief, his teams, colleagues, and social service organizations played a crucial role by providing quick financial help and relief material. Youth also contributed greatly by helping in cleaning and repairing affected areas, buildings, and religious places.
S. Harjot Bains said “When I visited the affected areas, I saw the extensive damage to houses. I immediately directed the administration to collect data, but for instant relief, we have been providing essential household items, furniture, bedding, relief material, and financial assistance to bring back normal life. Today, furniture was distributed to needy families. Earlier, food supplies, relief material, and essential items were delivered to each affected family”.
S. Harjot Bains also added that fodder and vaccination drives for animals are also underway. Hundreds of medical camps have been organized where free treatment was provided to affected families. He said that the Punjab Government is providing funds for strengthening the road network in the area and construction of bridges. The Bhagwant Singh Mann Government has already announced compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for crop loss, for which special surveys are being carried out. “Our officers are working on the ground,” he assured.
