Farmers provided information on improved pear cultivation techniques

Punjab Desk: The Farm Advisory Service Center of Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, organized a Horticulture Day on pear cultivation today in village Kulla, Patti. Over 100 orchardists participated in the event, where experts shared knowledge about scientific pear farming methods.
Dr. Parvinder Singh, Incharge of the Farm Advisory Service Center, Tarn Taran, welcomed the scientists and farmers. He encouraged growers to seek expert advice before establishing new orchards.
Dr. Mandeep Singh Gill, Senior Fruit Scientist from PAU, motivated farmers to adopt university-recommended practices for successful pear cultivation. He shared technical guidance on pruning techniques, fruit quality improvement, intercropping in orchards, harvesting methods, and fruit packaging.
Dr. Amardeep Kaur, Plant Pathologist, elaborated on pest and disease management in pear orchards.
Dr. Vikramjit Singh, Horticulture Development Officer, Tarn Taran, informed participants about various government schemes and subsidies available for orchardists.
Dr. Swarjit Khehra, District Extension Specialist (Fruits), educated farmers about planting new pear saplings and their maintenance.
Dr. Parminder Singh Sandhu, District Extension Specialist (Agronomy), shared best practices for weed, fertilizer and water management in orchards.
The event also featured an exhibition of pear varieties and PAU publications. Dr. Parvinder Singh concluded the program by thanking all experts and farmers for their participation.
The Horticulture Day aimed to promote scientific pear cultivation techniques among local farmers to enhance productivity and fruit quality. Experts emphasized adopting integrated orchard management practices for sustainable pear production in the region.
