Mumbai Hit by Heavy Rains as Monsoon Arrives Early; Widespread Waterlogging and Travel Disruptions
Mumbai witnessed heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms on Monday morning as the monsoon arrived earlier than expected, leading to widespread waterlogging and severe disruptions in transport. Over 250 flights were affected, and several train services faced delays across the city.
Low-lying areas such as Kurla, Sion, Dadar, and Parel were among the worst hit, with visuals showing vehicles struggling through heavily flooded streets.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reviewed the situation in affected regions and held meetings with disaster management officials to ensure preparedness. He instructed authorities to remain on high alert and carry out swift relief and rescue operations.
The downpour caused significant delays on Mumbai’s lifeline—the local trains—with services on the Central, Western, and Harbour lines running behind schedule. Key areas facing waterlogging included Sion Circle, Dadar TT, Hindmata, Five Gardens, and Kurla’s Shakkar Panchayat area.
