Ferozepur Health Department Holds Awareness Event on Childhood Cancer Day

Ferozepur, February 15

Following the directions of the Punjab Government and the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Department Punjab, the District Health Department Ferozepur, under the supervision of Dr. Lhimbir Ram Sarjan Ferozepur, organized an awareness event at the Government Senior Secondary Girls School in Ferozepur.

It was explained that this day is observed every year on February 15. They mentioned that cancer is a major cause of death among children. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness among the general public about childhood cancer, to express support for children and adolescents suffering from cancer and their families, and to provide the best possible treatment, care, and assistance. Health department officers and staff are encouraging children with childhood cancer to seek treatment and care.

Dr. Sunita Kamboz shared information, stating that every year, over 4 lakh children under the age of 20 are diagnosed with cancer. She mentioned that the World Health Organization’s goal is to reduce childhood cancer by 60% by 2030. She said that they honor those children who are suffering and express their sympathy for them. She advised that children who experience prolonged fever, lumps in any part of the body, weight loss, joint pain, red rashes or spots on the skin, a white spot in the center of the eye, vomiting in the morning, fractures from minor injuries, or constant headaches should consult a nearby specialist doctor.

Vinod Khurana, District Mass Media Officer, emphasized that children should reduce junk food consumption, develop a habit of exercising, avoid obesity, and refrain from consuming tobacco and alcohol. He also encouraged children to engage in sports and yoga to avoid mental stress.

Under the Punjab Government’s Chief Minister Punjab Cancer Relief Fund Scheme, residents of Punjab can avail treatment up to Rs. 1.5 lakh at government and empaneled hospitals. Additionally, the Ayushman Bharat Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme also covers cancer treatment.
