Punjab Desk: –In a horrifying incident in Boparai Baj Singh village, a father brutally m*urdered his daughter and her lover after they eloped. The accused, Gurdial Singh, first electrocuted both of them and then attacked them with a sharp weapon, killing them on the spot. After committing the double murder, he surrendered himself at Lopoke police station and confessed to the crime, citing “honour” as the motive.
The victims were 24-year-old Jobandeep Singh, a resident of Kakad village, and 22-year-old Sukhpreet Kaur, daughter of the accused. Jobandeep had been working on a road construction project near Gurdial Singh’s home. During that time, he and Sukhpreet fell in love.
On Sunday, the couple fled their homes. Gurdial and his family started searching for them. The next day, Monday, Jobandeep and Sukhpreet went to the court to register their marriage. However, a relative spotted them and informed the girl’s family.
Pretending to support their marriage, the family brought the couple back home. But once they were inside, Gurdial attacked them. He first used electric current to render them unconscious. When they were no longer responsive, he killed them using a sharp weapon.
As soon as police at Ramtirth police outpost were informed, in-charge Rachhpal Singh rushed to the scene and took the bodies for post-mortem. He confirmed that the accused had surrendered and confessed to the killings. Police said that if any other person is found involved in the crime, they will also be arrested.
