Punjab Desk:  To create awareness among farmers about stubble management, the Department of Agriculture organized a village-level farmers’ training camp at village Chambal in block Naushera Pannuan, under the guidance of Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Tejbir Singh and Block Agriculture Officer Dr. Malwinder Singh. The camp was held under the Crop Residue Management (CRM) Scheme.

Dr. Sukhwinder Singh, Agriculture Extension Officer, welcomed the farmers and provided detailed information about various farmer welfare schemes being run by the department. He also explained different methods of stubble management, use of CRM machines, and subsidies provided by the Agriculture Department on these machines.

During the camp, farmers were informed about medicines for preventing diseases in paddy crops such as “Haldi Rog” (Turmeric Disease) and were encouraged to cultivate vegetables by incorporating stubble into the soil instead of burning it. It was highlighted that stubble burning reduces organic matter in the soil, leads to loss of nitrogen and sulphur, and lowers soil fertility.

Village Varana’s Sarpanch, S. Paramjit Singh, and farmer Manjit Singh appealed to the farmers to adopt government-supported machines for stubble management instead of burning. The farmers present at the camp also expressed their commitment to stop stubble burning. On this occasion, field worker Jagjit Singh was also present.
