Mandi,May 24,2025 FACT RECORDER

The Election Commission of India has initiated 18 innovations across the country to make the election system more transparent, inclusive, and robust. These innovations are now being effectively implemented in Mandi district, according to District Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner Apoorva Devgan.

He stated that several important steps have been taken under these innovations to improve the voter experience. One of the key changes is the capping of the number of voters per polling station. Now, each polling station will cater to a maximum of 1,200 voters, which is expected to reduce long queues on polling day and allow voters to cast their votes more conveniently.

He informed that out of 1,217 polling stations currently in Mandi district, 40 polling stations have more than 1,200 voters. These include:

  • Karsog Assembly Constituency – 3 stations
  • Sundernagar – 8
  • Nachan – 6
  • Seraj – 1
  • Darang – 6
  • Jogindernagar – 2
  • Dharampur – 3
  • Mandi – 1
  • Balh and Mandi Constituencies – 5 stations each

He also shared that as of January 6, 2025, the total number of voters in the district is 8,71,567, comprising 4,35,295 male voters and 4,36,272 female voters.

To make the process of updating the electoral rolls more efficient, information on death registrations will now be obtained directly from the database of the Registrar General of India. This will help in promptly removing the names of deceased individuals from the rolls and ensure greater accuracy.

He further mentioned that to promote better coordination with political parties, all sub-divisions in Mandi district have successfully conducted all-party meetings. These meetings brought together all stakeholders of the election process on a common platform, encouraging transparency and cooperation.

Additionally, to ensure the uniqueness and authenticity of voter ID cards, each voter is now being assigned a Unique Voter Identification Number. This step is aimed at eliminating the issue of duplicate voter cards.

District Election Officer Apoorva Devgan expressed confidence that these initiatives by the Election Commission of India will significantly contribute to making the election process more transparent, accountable, and modern. He affirmed that Mandi district will implement these innovations with full enthusiasm and commitment, ensuring a free, accessible, and trustworthy electoral environment for all citizens.
