Iranian Wrestler Wins Title at ‘Dangal’ in J-K’s Ramban After 5 Years

After a five-year hiatus, the traditional wrestling event ‘Dangal’ returned to Ramban district in Jammu and Kashmir, drawing a large crowd of sports enthusiasts. The competition, organised by the Dangal Committee Chanderkote in collaboration with the police and Army, featured over 50 wrestlers from across India and Iran.

Iranian wrestler Ahmad Mirza Puria emerged victorious by defeating Punjab’s Bupinder Ajnala in the final. This was the fifth edition of the ‘Dangal’ in the district and the first held after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Ramban MLA Arjun Singh Raju praised the organisers, especially police officer Majid Ali, for successfully staging the event. He said it sent a strong message about the peaceful security situation in the region following recent anti-terror operations.

“Our forces are strong, and there is no threat. The event, including participation from foreign wrestlers, was a powerful response to terrorists aiming to disrupt our harmony,” said Raju. He encouraged local youth to engage in sports and avoid drugs.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kulbir Singh expressed satisfaction over the large turnout and community support for the event.
