Complete Ban on Pregabalin Capsules and Tablets Above 75 mg

punjab Desk: A complete ban has been imposed in the district on pregabalin capsules and tablets with a formulation above 75 mg. Deputy Commissioner Madam Poonamdeep Kaur stated that some miscreants misuse this medicine as a drug.

She said that to fulfill Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s dream of a drug-free Punjab, these orders have been issued to ensure strict compliance. Under Section 163 of the Indian Citizenship Protection Act 2023, a total ban has been imposed on this medicine (pregabalin above 75 mg).

The orders state that wholesalers, retailers, chemists, medical store owners, hospital pharmacists, and any other persons will not sell pregabalin 75 mg or above without a valid prescription. Additionally, sellers must maintain records of the tablets and capsules sold, including bills of purchase and sale. The prescription must have a stamp and include details such as the chemist/retailer/trade name, purchase date, quantity of tablets, etc.

According to these orders, every wholesaler, retailer, chemist, medical store owner, and hospital pharmacist must also ensure that the buyer has not previously purchased this medicine (pregabalin 75 mg) from another shop. Sellers must also ensure that the medicine is not provided to a customer for more days than mentioned on the prescription. These orders will remain in effect until 16 August 2025.

In emergency situations, patients genuinely requiring this medicine will be provided pregabalin through medical stores run by the District Red Cross Society. The Secretary of the Red Cross has been directed to maintain records of the sale of this medicine.
