Jai Ram Thakur Demands CM’s Apology Over Remarks Against High Court
Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur on Monday demanded an apology from Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for making what he termed as “objectionable” remarks against the Himachal Pradesh High Court. The comments were made in reference to the court’s decision to transfer the Vimal Negi death case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Speaking to mediapersons in Mandi, Thakur said, “The Chief Minister’s remarks against the High Court are serious and unacceptable. I believe the court itself will take note of this.” He lauded the High Court’s decision to order a CBI probe, stating it was necessary to ensure impartiality, especially since there appeared to be a possibility of interference in the investigation.
“The court rightly ruled that no Himachal cadre police officer should be involved in the probe,” Thakur added, accusing the Chief Minister of attempting to influence the investigation by insisting on appointing officers of his choice.
He dismissed Sukhu’s claim that the BJP was politicising the Vimal Negi case. “The Opposition has many issues it can politicise, but not the death of an individual. The CM’s comments on the High Court and its judge are a reflection of his frustration,” Thakur said.
He further pointed out that the demand for a CBI inquiry had been raised by the bereaved family on the very day Vimal Negi’s body was placed outside the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL) office. The Opposition, too, had supported the demand for a central probe.
Earlier in the day, Thakur also addressed a gathering in Ghumarwin, Bilaspur district, during the centenary celebrations of Ahilya Bai Holkar.
