  • Farmers thank MLA and Irrigation Department officials by offering sweets, express gratitude to Punjab Government

  • Saving depleting groundwater is a key initiative of the Mann Government: Jauramajra

Farmers of four villages—Lalochi, Fatehmajri, Achral Kalan, and Achral Khurd—of the Samana constituency experienced a wave of happiness today as canal water reached their fields for irrigation after nearly 50 years. The farmers expressed their gratitude to local MLA Chetan Singh Jauramajra and officials of the Irrigation Department, and thanked Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the state government by distributing sweets.

At a cost of approximately ₹1.27 crore, outlets (sue) were concretized to provide irrigation to about 1,100 acres, which is expected to significantly help in conserving groundwater.

On this occasion, MLA Chetan Singh Jauramajra inaugurated the concretization of a 9,860-foot canal outlet on the left side of RD 13714 from Nawada Minor to irrigate 592 acres, costing ₹74 lakh, and a 7,274-foot outlet on the right side of RD 13714 to irrigate 410 acres, costing ₹55 lakh.

He emphasized that this initiative is a major step by the Punjab Government to conserve groundwater.
He further added that due to the negligence of previous governments, canal outlets were illegally encroached upon, resulting in minimal use of canal water in Punjab. Instead, the benefits went to Haryana and other states through collusion, while Punjab’s farmers were on the verge of exhausting their groundwater reserves.

He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Punjab now uses about 80% of its rightful share of canal water. This not only helps in groundwater conservation but also saves electricity as motor pumps are used less frequently.

Present on the occasion:
Market Committee Chairman Balkar Singh Gajjumajra, Gurdev Singh Tiwana, Sarpanch Amrik Singh, Jas Singh, Vikram Singh Lalochi, Gurvinder Singh Lalochi, Karnail Singh Lalochi, Nirbhai Singh Fatehmajri, Dharminder Singh, Balwinder Singh Gajjumajra, and officials from the Irrigation Department including SDO Gurpreet Singh, JE Mohit Bansal, canal patwaris Mandeep Singh, Harpreet Singh, and Jagwinder Singh, among others.
