- Punjab Desk: Harjot Singh Bains, Cabinet Minister for Education and Information & Public Relations, has appealed to residents of riverbank areas in his constituency, Sri Anandpur Sahib, to shift to safer places and relief camps. He assured that all facilities and arrangements have been made for them there. He said that the Punjab Government stands firmly with the people in this natural disaster. “We spent the entire night working on strengthening weak embankments of rivers and canals,” he added.
Saluting the service and spirit of youth clubs, young volunteers, panches, sarpanches, AAP volunteers, and sewadars, Bains said, “In this difficult time, they have selflessly protected people and livestock with full dedication.”
Bains further appealed to the people, saying, “Punjab is going through a very challenging period. It is our moral duty to stand firmly with our land and our people.” He informed that due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and the region for the past several hours, the water level of Bhakra Dam has reached 1678 feet. Local streams are overflowing, and a small amount of excess water is being released from the dam, which will reach nearby villages within a few hours. Therefore, residents of low-lying areas must immediately move to safer places and relief camps.
He also urged panches and sarpanches to cooperate and make people aware. A video message has also been released in which he appealed to people not to believe in rumors. For any assistance, people can contact the helpline number 87279-62441.
Bains further informed that NDRF teams are deployed, and he along with his colleagues worked throughout the night. Wherever a critical situation was reported, embankments were strengthened, and people were kept safe. “This service was carried out by our panches, sarpanches, youth clubs, and AAP volunteers throughout the night. Now, our appeal is that people in low-lying areas must move to safer places. The next few hours require us to remain alert,” he said.
