Byju’s Learning App Delisted from Google Play Store Over Payment Default to AWS

Byju’s flagship learning app has been removed from the Google Play Store due to non-payment of dues to Amazon Web Services (AWS), according to sources. AWS, which provides crucial support to the app, has been attempting to resolve payment issues with Think and Learn, the company operating under the Byju’s brand, since April 2024.

A source informed PTI that the delisting occurred because Byju’s business is currently under the management of an Insolvency Resolution Professional (IRP), who is responsible for handling payment matters. Attempts to reach Think and Learn’s IRP, Shailendra Ajmera, for comment were unsuccessful.

Other Byju’s apps, such as Byju’s Premium Learning and Byju’s Exam Prep, remain available on the Play Store and are managed by different vendors, sources said. The learning app continues to be accessible on Apple’s App Store.

An AWS spokesperson confirmed ongoing efforts to resolve the outstanding account balance since April 2024 but declined to comment on actions taken by other technology providers regarding the Byju’s app.

Byju’s Learning App offers courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology for classes 4 to 12, social studies for classes 6 to 8, and preparation for competitive exams like JEE, NEET, and IAS.

Meanwhile, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has initiated insolvency proceedings against Byju’s following appeals from several investors, including lender-authorised agency Glas Trust.
