Punjab Desk: Punjabi Sahit Sabha Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with the Office of the District Language Officer, Hoshiarpur, organized a literary event to launch Principal Gurdayal Singh Phull’s book “Rishtiyan Di Mahak” along with a seminar. The event was presided over by Dr. Karamjit Singh, Madan Veera, Tripta K. Singh, Dr. Jaswant Rai, and Dr. Harpreet Singh.
Before the session began, Research Officer Dr. Jaswant Rai read a condolence resolution in memory of late Punjabi poet Shri Ram Arsh, renowned comedy actor and film personality Jaswinder Bhalla, Sabha’s patron Kultar Singh’s nephew Dr. Hardeep Singh Sethi, and those Punjabis who lost their lives due to the devastating floods in Punjab. All the writers and literature lovers present observed two minutes of silence to pay tribute.
Later, Sabha President Tripta K. Singh welcomed the guests and congratulated the author for his new collection of essays. Presenting a paper on the book, Dr. Harpreet Singh said that the wide variety of themes in Phull’s writings highlight his intellectual diversity, while also reflecting his humanistic approach. He described the book as an attempt to preserve the sanctity of human relationships, which are eroding in the capitalist era.
Madan Veera, in his critical commentary, said that where Gurdayal Singh writes as a teacher, his perspective appears constructive and deep, but at places where he adopts a medieval approach towards culture, his views seem somewhat limited. Tripta K. Singh and other participants also shared their thoughts about the book.
Concluding the discussion, Dr. Karamjit Singh remarked that writing essays is not an easy task – it requires extensive reading. He gave the example of Principal Teja Singh as one of the finest essayists in Punjabi literature. While congratulating Phull on his work, he suggested that before the next edition, the author should study and incorporate more cultural elements into his writings.
In the second session, a Kavi Darbar (poetic gathering) was held, where poets Principal Das Bharti, Hardyala Hoshiarpuri, Surinder Kangvi, Meenakshi Menon, Raj Kumar Ghasipuria, Tirath Chand Saroa, Jaswant Singh, Bhupinderpreet Kaur, Satish Kumar, and others mesmerized the audience with their compositions.
On this occasion, the author along with the presiding panel were honored with shawls and sets of books. Dr. Jaswant Rai efficiently conducted the stage proceedings. Among the attendees were literature enthusiasts Harvinder Sabi, Gurpreet Singh, Inspector Maninder Singh, Ravi Singh, Mangal Singh, Shakuntla Devi, Manharpreet Kaur, Ravnur Kaur, and Anhadnad Kaur.
