Punjab Desk: Punjabi Lok Virasat Akademi Ludhiana Chairman Prof. Gurbhajan Singh Gill has appealed to all the countrymen to celebrate the death anniversary of Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, who was martyred in the first Lahore Conspiracy Case on 16 November 1915, as well as the other six heroes who were hanged in the same jail on the same day. If these heroes can be hanged together for the sacred cause of freedom, then why do we hesitate to celebrate their death anniversary together?
Prof. Gill has said that seven heroes were hanged together for the first time in the freedom struggle on 16 November 1915. Out of the seven martyrs who were martyred along with Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha, six were Punjabis whose names were Shaheed Bhai Jagat Singh of village Sur Singh (Tarn Taran), Shaheed Bhai Bakshish Singh, Shaheed Bhai Surayan Singh (Big), Shaheed Bhai Surayan Singh (Small). The last three martyrs are from village Gillwali (Amritsar). Shaheed Harnam Singh was from Sialkoti (Village Bhatti Goraya) Sialkot) while the seventh martyr Vishnu Ganesh Pingle was from Talegaon (Pune) Maharashtra.
Prof. Gill has said that these seven heroes of the freedom struggle were never remembered together at the government level after 1947 till 2023, even though they have repeatedly written letters and met the Chief Ministers of different times since 2012, only the current S. Bhagwant Singh Mann government has implemented this work and decided to present a joint poster of the seven heroes including Shaheed Sarabha to the public through various newspapers on November 16.
He said that in 2023, the portraits of all these martyrs were prepared by the Punjabi Lok Virasat Academy and handed over to the Punjab government.
