Office of the District Public Relations Officer, Fazilka
The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Fazilka has appealed to the farmers to destroy the weeds growing on the edges of the fields for the betterment of the upcoming cotton crop and if there are still weeds in the fields, then they should be removed from there. Giving information in this regard, Agriculture Officer Dr. Mamta Luna said that whiteflies are found on various weeds growing around the fields, which later attack the cotton crop. If the farmers destroy the weeds growing around the fields and in other vacant places at this time, then the growth of this whitefly can stop here and the possibility of its attack on the upcoming cotton crop can be reduced.
Similarly, he said that the larvae of the pink bollworm are hidden in the cotton bolls. If even now any farmer has not shaken the cotton bolls lying in the field and destroyed the pupae in them, then these bolls should be immediately swept away and brought from the field to the village and the garbage left behind should be buried deep or burnt so that the pupae in it can be destroyed. He said that if these measures are taken immediately, the possibility of whitefly or pink bollworm attack on the coming cotton crop can be reduced to a large extent. He said that for more information in this regard, farmers can contact the Block Agriculture Offices or Circle Agriculture Officers.
