Ban on Gathering of Five or More People in Public Places by Order of the District Magistrate

Punjab Desk: District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner of Moga, Mr. Sagar Setia, exercising the powers conferred under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, has issued orders prohibiting the gathering of five or more persons in public places within the district. The orders also restrict individuals from raising slogans or holding public meetings at such locations.
However, under special circumstances or on specific occasions, organizers may apply in writing and obtain written permission from the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate to hold public meetings or religious processions, subject to approval conditions.
District Magistrate Mr. Sagar Setia stated that gatherings of five or more persons, holding meetings, shouting slogans, or taking out processions without permission may disturb public peace and could lead to damage to public and private property. These orders have been issued to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of life and property of the citizens.
These restrictions shall not apply to police/army personnel, military staff, on-duty government employees, funeral processions, weddings, etc.
Ban Also Imposed on Unauthorized Digging of Borewells Without Written Permission
Mr. Sagar Setia further added that no person in rural or urban areas of Moga district is allowed to dig or get dug any kind of borewell without the written permission and supervision of the Executive Engineer, Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Moga.
He explained that many accidents and even deaths have occurred due to unregulated digging of borewells. It is, therefore, essential to prevent such mishaps.
These orders will remain in effect until August 31, 2025.
