At least 30 people have lost their lives in the Northeast over the past two days due to landslides and flash floods. Today alone, fourteen deaths were reported across the region from similar incidents. States including Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram have been severely affected by the heavy rains, landslides, and floods. In Assam, around 60,000 people across 12 districts have been impacted by these natural disasters.

In Assam, five people died due to landslides within the last 24 hours, as continuous rainfall caused flooding in six districts, affecting over 10,000 residents. Arunachal Pradesh witnessed nine fatalities caused by flash floods and landslides. Tragically, seven members from two families lost their lives in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Kameng district after their vehicle was swept away in a landslide.

The weather department has issued a red and orange alert for certain areas in Assam, while the rest of the Northeast remains under orange and yellow alerts, warning residents to stay cautious as the heavy rains continue.
