- Appeal to seek treatment for those suffering from drug addiction

The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is making efforts to provide free treatment to people suffering from drug addiction. Therefore, 2 de-addiction centers and 09 OAT clinics are running in the district for the treatment of such people. Giving this information, the district’s Civil Surgeon Dr. Lehmber Ram appealed to the people of the district that if anyone is suffering from drug addiction, then he can take advantage of this facility of the government and get his treatment done free of cost.
He said that two drug de-addiction centers are running at Fazilka and Abohar where seriously affected people are admitted and treated. This treatment is completely free. Apart from this, 09 OAT clinics are running. These OAT clinics are running at Rehabilitation Center Jat Wali (Fazilka), Civil Hospital Abohar and Jalalabad, CHC Khuikhera, Dabwala Kalan Jandwala Bhimeshah and Sitoguno. At OAT clinics, the patient does not have to be admitted and he can take the medicine from here and complete the course by staying at his home.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Lehmber Ram said that addiction is a disease and its treatment is possible after which a person can completely quit drugs and live like a normal citizen. He said that those people who are suffering from addiction and are not taking treatment earlier should immediately visit a psychiatrist in the government hospitals of Abohar, Fazilka and Jalalabad. After examination, treatment will be started by them. If there is a need for admission, then treatment will be started by admission and the patient will recover after staying in the hospital for 7 to 10 days and getting treatment or they will be given regular medicine to get treatment at home.
Psychiatrist Dr. Mahesh Kumar and Fazilka Drug Detoxification Center In-charge Dr. Prikshi Arora said that in the initial phase, the patient has to come to the hospital daily for a few days and take medicine, but later the patient can be given a weekly dose of medicine. They said that after treatment for drug addiction, the patient can be normal. Therefore, they appealed to the district residents to get people treated for drug addiction. They said that the identity of the person undergoing treatment is kept completely confidential. They also said that so far a total of 4549 patients have come to these centers to get the benefits.
